These were drawn up after a meeting with members of the Brethren Community on 6 June 1996 and were reviewed on 2 October 2000 and then reviewed again in November 2002.
Use of camcorders, word processors and the library scanner is acceptable where necessary for educational purposes within the school curriculum. Casual use should be avoided.
Contact with / use of the Internet and e-mail must be avoided. Specific relevant educational material may be printed, by others, onto paper for use as a study aid.
Use of video / CD Rom images is acceptable provided they are not fictional, for entertainment, or defiling. Live television is not acceptable. Any doubts as to suitability should be referred to parents before viewing by the children.
Brethren would not wish their children to listen to radio.
Certain activities that cover drug education should not be used. The following units from the Getting It Right programme are not suitable:
The Brethren Children should not be included in the schemes of work relating to the Sex and Relationship Policy. The children will, however, participate in the Science modules relating to life processes.
The children do not participate in collective worship. The children will be supervised by one of the Brethren parents or adults during assembly times.
The children are withdrawn from all forms of R.E. Workbooks will be provided by parents, if required, for these sessions. (Please let Brethren parents know when these are needed.)
The children may participate in such activities as part of the school curriculum during school hours. Parents may wish to withdraw their children from some visiting performances or talks depending on their content.
The children can participate in these visits for educational purposes within school hours. Parents will accompany their children and support the trip and may wish to travel by coach or arrange alternative transport. Parents will supervise their own children at mealtimes
The Brethren children will eat and drink separately from others.
Brethren are always willing to discuss or clarify any concern or questions. They can generally be contacted during the day if necessary. They are grateful for the continued support and understanding shown by the school.
