Shock
There is a big difference between having a shock, such as a nasty surprise, and the medical condition known as shock. If a person has lost a lot of blood, or is a great deal of pain, they may go into shock. This is very serious - you should get help straight away.

Shock - the signs and symptoms
- The person feels weak
- Their skin is pale, damp and cold
- They may feel sick
- Their breathing will be fast and shallow
Shock - how to treat it
- Lie the person down, keep their head low
- Raise legs and loosten tight clothing
- Keep the person warm. Don't give them anything to eat or drink
